Azelaic Acid has demonstrated therapeutic effects in the treatment of acne and several disorders of hyperpigmentation and melasma. Known benefits are: anti-inflammatory, anti-keratinising and antibacterial results that helps prevent clogged pores.
Azelaic Acid also offsets inflammation associated with acne by reducing P. acnes bacteria and clearing pores - a good alternative to Benzyl Peroxide. Think of it as a very gentle 'leave-on' exfoliator. Works well alongside ingredient, Salicylic Acid.
It can also be used as a hypo pigmentation agent in those sensitive to hydroquinone.
Good results shown with people with acne rosacea.
Can be used in pregnancy or when breastfeeding.
Derived from an extract in yeast that is naturally found in our skin.
Percentage in Skincare:
Typically 5-10% for OTC and 15-20% for prescription
Little benefit to those not suffering from acne, rosacea or pigmentation.
