Hyaluronic Acid (HA)
HA is a humectant and naturally occurring molecule in our body but sadly the concentration deteriorates with age. It attracts and retains 1000 times its own weight in water from the dermis layer of the skin and from the external environment.
It will help the skin to retain moisture and give it a plump and firmer look.
Safe to use in pregnancy and when breastfeeding.
There are high and low molecular weights of HA available. Sodium hyaluronate is a small molecular weight and hydrolysed Sodium Hyaluronate is even smaller. Depending on the size of the molecule will depend on how far into the skin it will travel either plumping the skin on the surface or from the deeper layers within.
HA can be included in many products including toners, moisturisers, serums, masks, make-up and even injectables.
Percentage in Skincare:
3% is the maximum we have found OTC, however, this was in mask form.
Can be known to dry out certain skin types drawing too much moisture from the dermis layer.
